THE 34TH DAY T MINUS ELEVEN OH FIVE: THE HOPEWELL CULTURE, THE ADENA PEOPLE, THE LOST MEGALITHIC CIVILIZATION AND THE BURIAL MOUNDS THAT PERVADE THE COUNTRYSIDE FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA

EXCERPTED FROM TEXT ENTITLED THE SEARCH FOR LOST AMERICA: THE MYSTERYIES OF THE STONE RUINS, TRENTO, SM, CONTEMPORARY BOOKS, INC, CHICAGO, NINETEEN SEVENTY-EIGHT. FOR REFERENCE, THE NATIONAL PARK BEARING THE NAME HOPEWELL THAT IS NOT THE SUBJECT OF THIS POST, HOWEVER IS INCLUDED IN LIEU OF FURTHER EXPOSITION ON VERY REAL ARCHAEOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY.

NOTWITHSTANDING THE APPARENT RECONSTRUCTION OF THOSE EARTHWORKS FOUND IN THE MOUND CITY GROUP. IN THE MEANTIME, CONSULT THIS LINK FOR SOME ANTEDILUVIAN REFERENCE MATERIAL ON THE MOUND-BUILDERS.

PRELIMINARY MEASUREMENTS OF THE FIRST CHAMBER FROM THE MAUCH CHUNK HENGE MAIN SITE,

NORTH NORTH-EAST APPROX TWO-TWENTY ALIGMENT OF CHAMBER WALL AT TOP OF PHOTO ABOVE MEASURING IN EXCESS OF FOUR FEET, NOTE ERR IN PRIOR STATED DIMENSION OF THREE FEET EYBALLED, LONG-AXIS SEVEN TO EIGHT FEET, AND MOST SURPRISING REVELATION IS APPARENT SEVEN TO EIGHT FEET DEPTH OF THE CHAMBER AS MEASURED FROM ONE OPENING THAT IS PRESENT BUT NOT SEEN IN THE DETRITUS THAT CONCEALS THE ENTRY POINT TO WHAT IS ALL IN LIKEIHOOD A LARGER BURIAL CHAMBER BELOW.

NOTE, THERE ARE AT LEAST FIVE ROCKY MOUNDS OF THE TYPE EXHIBITED HEREIN AT THE MAIN SITE OF THE MAUCH CHUNK HENGE THAT ARE BUILT IN STEPS ALONG THE MOUNTAINSIDE ADJACENT TO BOTH A RAILROAD AND THE ONOKO FALLS,

ABOVE, APRROACHING MOUND ONE FROM THE TRAIL ABOVE LEADS TO AND ELEVEN PLUS FOOT ROCKY EMBANKMENT THAT IS APPROXIMATELY CONVEX TO THE NORTH,

THIS IS PERHAPS THE MOST PROMINENT ROCKY MOUND OF THE HENGE DO TO PROXIMITY TO THE OTHER WAY ROUND TRAIL,

HOWEVER, THE HEIGHT OF WALL IS NOT UNIFORM AND IS APPROXIMATELY TWELVE FEET OR MORE AT THE HIGHEST POINT.

THE TRAIL ABOVE, HENCE THE MOST ACCESSIBLE RUINS, ALBEIT UNNAMED ON OTHERWISE PRESENT SIGNAGE BEARING THE MARKS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA, AND OTHERWISE ABSENT THE KNOWN LITERATURE IN MAUCH CHUNK ITSELF OR TO BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET, FURTHER RESEARCH MAY REVEAL THAT THIS SITE WAS INDEED A PART OF THE MOUNDS GUTTED BY CYRUS THOMAS IN THE EIGHTEEN-NINETIES ALLEGEDLY ON BEHALF OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE.

THE CONVENIENT WALKWAY INTO BURIAL MOUND ONE, AS IT SHALL BE REFERRED TO, IS THE DIFFERENTIATING FEATURE FROM THE OTHER FOUR MOUNDS OF THIS DISTINCT TERRACED STYLE AS EXHIBITED BELOW WHERE THE SCALE OF MOUND ONE IS ALSO SEEN TO BE FAR GREATER THAN CAN BE REVEALED IN ONE PHOTOGRAPH,

THE AFORESAID CHAMBER AND TWELVE FOOT WALL LIE JUST BEYOND THE WALL AT TOP BELOW,

WHEREIN AT SOME DISTANCE GREATER THAN TWENTY FEET ALONG THE HILLSIDE BELOW WE FIND A THIRD ROCK WALL, CONCAVE TO THE NORTH, THAT DOES APPEAR TO BE THE OF VERY SAME HILLOCK AND AS YET THE LOWEST OBSERVED POINT OF MOUND ONE. THE RAILROAD LIES BEYOND THIS LOWER WALL SOME HUNDREDS OF FEET AWAY DOWN THE HILL, OPPOSITE THE FIELD OF VIEW, AND WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE VISIBLE FROM THIS VANTAGE POINT THROUGH THICK FOLIAGE, AND BEYOND THAT THE LEHIGH RIVER.

EXCERPT FROM THE SAME TEXT, PLAUSIBLE MOUNTAINSIDE ORIENTATION,

RETURNING TO MOUND ONE, THE FORM OF THE HILLOCK RISING FROM THE LOWEST WALL UPWARDS TO THE CHAMBER ENTRANCE ABOVE,

AT LEFT ABOVE, THE LOWEST WALL OF MOUND ONE IN PANORAMIC VIEW, CLOSER FIDELITY TO THE FORM OF THIS MOUND TYPE AT THE SOUTH TIP OF THE LOW WALL EXHIBITED BELOW,

WHICH DOES RESEMBLE THE SLOPE OF THE HILLOCK ATOP MOUND FIVE THAT IS EXHIBITED BELOW,

WHICH MAY IN FACT BE THE LOWEST WALL OF ANOTHER TERRACED ROCKY MOUND ABOVE THAT IS OTHERWISE CONCEALED BY EARTH AT PRESENT TIME.

THE MIDDLE WALL OF MOUND FIVE, WHERE A BRIEF WALK TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT LEADS UP TO A UNIFORMLY FLAT TERRACE THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE OPEN WALKWAY AND CHAMBER ENTRANCE OF MOUND ONE THAT IS AS SUCH IN ALL LIKELIHOOD DUE TO PRIOR EXCAVATION. HERE AT MOUND FIVE, A SIMILAR CHAMBER IN ALL LIKELIHOOD AWAITS UPON EXCAVATION.

FURTHER EXHIBITIONS TO COME AS THE WEATHER PERMITS.
